Year 2

Year 2 Remote Learning Plan, Spring 2 2021- weeks 3 and 4

In year 2, it is crucial that children work on their basic literacy and maths skills.  We know that teaching children at home is very challenging, and we appreciate that it might be impossible to teach all of these lessons each week.  At St Denys Infants School, our priorities for year 2 children are as follows (in this order):

  1. Reading
  2. Phonics
  3. Maths
  4. English
  5. RE
  6. The other ‘foundation’ subjects.

Week 3 sees all children return to school following the lockdown.  At school we are focusing on mental and physical health and wellbeing and at home we would like you to do the same.

Salvation: Why does Easter matter to Christians?

Learning objective: Children recognise that stories from the bible are linked with Salvation

Recap the Easter story

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wnbo2AmS3OI

For Christians this is a story of sadness but also great happiness.  Tell children that Jesus rescues people, which we call salvation (write that down).  Teach that for Christians Jesus rose again, giving people hope for new life (link to previous lessons looking at new life at Springtime).

The end of the story is happy because Christians believe that Jesus went to heaven and carried on helping others.  He told them how to live good lives and therefore rescuing them from loneliness, giving them peace and forgiving them.

Look at the last picture of the Easter story

  • Children draw their own interpretation of the last picture
  • What would Jesus say to his followers who were crying?
  • What do the children think about salvation?
  •
