Phonics in year One
In Year One we learn phonics following the Letters and Sounds LCP planning. We stream across the Year Group so that children are learning at their specific level and pace which allows us to focus in more depth on what the children need to know. This means that your child may have a different teacher for Phonics than their class teacher.
In phonic sessions children will be asked to read and write words, captions and sentences and play games designed to improve their sounding out and blending skills.
We use robot arms to sound talk through the word and blend once we have sounded out.
There are also tricky and high frequency words that the children can practice reading at home.
Try registering for 'Teach your monster to read' (link below) - it is a free site run by Usborne books which is a great, inspiring game designed to teach the children phonics.
