Maths - Telling the time

Activity 1 - Find a clock and introduce the hands, discuss how they move round the clock in a clockwise direction, talk about seconds, minutes and hours.  Introduce o'clock by showing children that both hands need to be on the 12. Refer to this throughout the day whenever the clock reaches an o'clock.yes

Activity 2: Design and make your own Clock.... you can magpie some ideas below. *PLEASE remember to take a photograph of your clock and put it on our Blog. *

Activity 3:  Recap o'clock and talk about things that happen at o'clock times - lunch at school is at 12 o'clock, we get ready to go home at 3 o'clock. Introduce half past - talk about the fact that the big hand has travelled half way around the clock.

Use your clock to make o'clock and half past times.

*You could also use the 'Topmarks' website..... https://www.topmarks.co.uk/time/teaching-clock to make some o'clock and half past times!*

Activity 4:  Make a diary of the day that includes timings - e.g I get up at 7 o'clock, I have breakfast at half past 7 etc. Encourage children to draw the clocks and write the times.

Activity 5:  Do a 1 minute challenge activity (See table below)  These challenges help the children understand the concept of time and how long a minute really isyes

Well done with your adding of 2 digit numbers. You are all doing such a great job!

This week we have some slightly trickier addition tasks for you to complete.

Don't forget you can also be practising counting in 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's at home or even when you are on a walk!

Week beginning 27.04.2020

We have been so impressed with the blog posts showing us how well you've been getting on with your place value work. Well done!

This week we're going to remind ourselves how to add 2 digit numbers. The power points below show you lots of different ways you can do this and remind you of the resources we have used in class. Have a go at the questions and don't forget you can always draw your tens and ones ! Good luck smiley

Week beginning 20.04.2020

We hope you got  on well with your mixed activity booklets last week and are ready and raring to go with this week's challenges! This week we'll be thinking about place value and concentrating especially on the parts that make 2 digit numbers. We will be thinking about different ways to show our thinking and using  different vocabulary. If you're feeling super mathematical then why not try our 'Greater Depth' challenges.

Good luck and please send us pictures of how you've been getting on using our school blog! wink

Week beginning 13.04.2020

This week we've got a mixed maths activity booklet for you to work your way through. You will be recapping lots of the basics of things you've already done in Year 1 and 2. This is to get you prepared for some trickier jobs next week ! Good luck laugh
