Phonics in year One
In Year One we will learn phonics in sound families per week. This approach goes across the phonic phases and focuses on the different ways of reading and writing the same sound. Spellings each week will link to the phonic sound learnt that week.
In phonic sessions children will be asked to read and write words, captions and sentences and play games designed to improve their sounding out and blending skills.
We use robot arms to sound talk through the word and blend once we have sounded out.
There are also tricky and high frequency words that the children can practice reading at home.
