We went on a Spring walk and found an unusual looking egg, so we used our imagination to think what might come out of it, we also created our own egg creatures.
We have been learning about elephants
I love my mum because ...
Elmer is special. What makes you special?
We have been learning about China, and have made our own dragon, which we will use in our parade next week.
We have been learning about nocturnal animals, so we used clay to make hedgehogs. We explored the clay and noted that is was soft and damp we squeezed it and realised that we could change its shape, then we rolled the clay into a fat sausage and pinched it to create the nose, we used tools to make eyes and a different tool to create the spines. We followed the instructions carefully to create our own individual hedgehogs. We then needed to leave the clay to dry this took a few days! When the clay was dry we explored it again and found that it was also very hard. When we painted our hedgehogs we were really impressed with the final product.
We have been learning about owls, we wrote facts, labelled an owl and created our own owl using different media and materials.
Andy Tooze came to visit St. Denys he performed some of his poems, we really liked "Baby in a buggy" and "Wink". He also helped us compose our own class poem:
sharp talons on its
good for tearing
and pulling at mice
owls think raw
meat is really nice
Philip brought Jack the owl to visit us. He told us lots of facts about owls, he was impressed that Rohan knew owls drink blood. All the children had an opportunity to stroke Jack, we remembered to wash our hands afterwards though!
