Have you seen this dragon?
On Monday, January 7th, we came back to school after our Christmas break to find these footprints leading across the room to a nest! We used a footprint identification chart to work out that these were dragon footprints. Have you seen this dragon?
Autumn Term 2
This half term our Topic is Marvellous Materials
This half term we will be learning all about materials and their properties. We will investigate which materials are hard/ soft, bendy/ not bendy, stiff and flexible. The children will also learn about waterproof materials and what absorbent, transparent and opaque mean. We will use what we have learnt about materials to help us build a house in Design and Technology. Alongside our materials learning we will also investigate the weather by looking at seasonal changes, different types of weather and what weather symbols on weather forecasts tell us.
Autumn Term 1
This half term our topic is Super Senses
This half term's topic is all about our super senses. We will be learning about parts of our body such as bones, joints and our senses in science, which will link to learning about the famous person, Louis Braille, in history. We will make hand and finger puppets in DT linked to Superheroes and will illustrate an ebook and record sound effects for computing. We will link our senses to Autumn and learn about the changing seasons.
P.E. days are Mondays and Thursdays. Please can you ensure that children have both an indoor and outdoor kit available for these days. Can children with earrings either have them taken out at home or be provided with tape to keep them safe during these lessons please. Outdoor P.E is on a Thursday, weather permitting, so outdoor P.E. kit can be either brought in that day or left in school.
Your child is encouraged to change their reading book after lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It is really valuable for children to read the same book multiple times - when they have struggled with a word on the first time through, reading it for a second time on a separate occasion helps to embed the word in their memory.
We will aim to hear the children read in a guided reading session once every two weeks. At other times in the week the children may be heard by other adults within school. Children are also reading during daily phonics session and often in English and cross curricular lessons too.
