June 20th-June 24th 2016
This week saw us focussing on Art, Dance, PE and music to find out more about the Olympics.
Monday - we had a dance workshop with Australian dance, designed a kit for the Australian team thinking about the colours of their flag and animals you might see there, and also designed a medal.
Tuesday - started with a mini Olympics for Year 1 in sunny weather. We had hurdles and relay races, discus and javelin throwing - soft versions! Then finished with a marathon of 6 laps before a medal ceremony. Later we used aboriginal art idea and colours for our art competition. Children drew then painted geckos. In the afternoon we had a lovely concert by Ibstock Community College band in the hall, and we sung the Kookaburra song to them and our school.
Wednesday - more aboriginal art ideas before starting the transformation of shoeboxes into various sport stadiums - swimming, rowing lakes, track and field as well as basketball courts. All this took place during open afternoon.
Thursday - we completed our stadium work, learnt sport songs then watched Foundation perform the dances they had learnt in their workshop.
Friday - a collaborative art installation - we made a swimmer from different art media. Each child had a small canvas which when covered was put together to make the complete picture. Then we learnt more about how the Olympics started and how it has changed.
